about

A combination of a Siberian welcome dance song and an Alaskan song by Alex Muktoyuk. Alex came from King Island, Alaska. Until 1947 Alaskans and Siberians traveled freely back and forth across the Bering Strait. Then the Cold War and the 'Iron Curtain' cut them off from one another for four decades. Alex wrote songs both in English and in his native language, Inupiaq.

Kaghun tavra tunni
(When will it be again?)
Katisugvita
(When will we get together?)
Kaghun tavra tunni
(When will it be again?)
Kuyaghuyukpita
(When will we greet each other:)
Ingalillu, Imaklillu
(The Diomede People, the Siberians)
Unga, iya, ah
Ughiuvokmiulu
(And the King Island People,)
Kinnighuglunga
(So that I can see)
Pwalaruaniik
(The Welcome Dancers?)
Ung iya, unga iya, unga iya ah
Eya yunga ah iya, yunga ah
Kaghun tavra tunni
(When will it be again?)
